what we achieved, in a concrete and measurable way, over the years
in 1998, hope and homes for children started a pioneering programme in Romania: closing down orphanages where an estimated of 100,000 abandoned children lived. we know that the individual care and attention that a child receives within a loving family are priceless. And we know that those children in orphanages received neither attention, nor love.
from then until now
we closed down 81 orphanages and this meant over 7,774 children taken out from placement centers. Most of them returned to their own families, some were, and still are, raised by foster carers. Others, the older ones, took their first steps towards an independent life: a job and a place to live, no matter how small, as long as it belongs to them.

their purpose is to provide an environment that is as close as possible to the family one, where children can hear encouragements we all need: “good job”, “come on, try again”, “you are sad, I get it”, or “you are happy and I am laughing together with you”. in other words, part of those things that every child needs: love, care, education, emotional support, feeling of belonging.
we kept over 45,064 children with their families
we prevent children from entering orphanages by providing vulnerable families with the support they need to stay together. By the end of 2025, we have kept more than 45,000 children with their families – tens of thousands of traumas that didn’t happen anymore.
we supported 2,578 youngsters
young people leaving the social protection system are often alone and unprepared for an independent life. through our social and professional reintegration program, we helped 2,578 youngsters.
for some we provided housing, others were supported to become what they wanted: car mechanic, barber, baker, teacher, nurse, teacher, parent.
10,858 staff members
the reform of the child protection system cannot be completed without staff training. more than 10,858 staff members, employed in child protection departments or public social assistance services in 25 counties, have benefited from the Foundation’s training programs.
