A new adventure camp under the sun

What views we lived during the 5 days of experiences!

Summer offers the best opportunity to provide vulnerable children with camps that will bring back their desire to smile wholeheartedly and connect with themselves, but also with other children of similar age.

We have just completed the third camp this summer and we would like to introduce you to our explorers: 15 children from Baia Mare and Sighetu Marmației, who come from: the family houses we have built, from the social assistance services developed by us, but also from a Day Center for children.

What exactly did we do?

We reached a well-known mountain peak in our country: Toaca Peak. Was it hard for us to get up there? Yes. But did we transformed “I can’t!”, “It’s too hard!”, “My legs hurt too bad!”, “How many more steps are there?” in “We made it!”, “Do you realize how strong we are?”? We surely did!

And that’s something the kids won’t soon forget. The entire 10-hour route gave them more self-confidence and less negative, self-sabotaging thoughts.

We measured time in: activities, miles traveled through nature, and closer friendships.

We give you the reasons why we keep everything we experienced this week in our hearts.

The camps offer a unique learning context. They involve experiential education, which provides the opportunity to learn regardless of the purpose of the activities. Who would have thought that a Kürtőskalács workshop would show children the meaning of patience, work done with their own hands and attention to detail so that the result would be at least how they want it?

The kids were out of their comfort zone. They learned about themselves because they went through various challenges. They identified their strengths and how to work with their limitations. On day #2, we understood that we can conquer even a mountain top, after a route with a lot of effort if we self-motivate and stand by each other.

Some are trained as leaders and others as inspiring people. The team games gave the little ones the chance to test different roles. Especially on difficult routes with obstacles. On day #4, the kids bravely geared up and completed several trails at Balu Adventure Park, and the cheers that echoed throughout the park made everyone want to try as many elements as possible from the trails.

They had fun and were integrated into a group. Every day, we got to know each other better, laughed heartily and took care of each other. Take some sticky notes, some spaghetti and let the children’s creativity work. And this is how we saw with our own eyes what we each had in our hearts.

These are just some of the reasons. And if the written things didn’t convince you, maybe the pictures will.

As always, we want to offer them the opportunity of unforgettable experiences, something they never dreamed of. We sincerely thank the Douglas Romania team for making learning possible in such a beautiful way for the strongest children, but also for us adults, who are here to see them grow beyond vulnerability.
